Silk pillowcases... myth or magic?

Silk pillowcases... myth or magic?

There’s been a lot of buzz the past few years about silk pillow cases and their beauty benefits for skin and hair.  But are they all they’re cracked up to be?

Silk pillowcases can for sure add to keeping your hair healthy and wearable for multiple days...but it's not a miracle worker.  Most of the things that cause hair to get frizzy during sleeping aren't solely based on what you wrap your pillow in.  Friction from moving around while you sleep and temperature are usually the biggest culprits. Even the best blow out can't withstand your body temp rising during the night.  If you wake up warm, chances are your smoothed locks will be brought back to their natural state, weather that's curly or flat after a good nights sleep.

To help get more longevity I recommend my fine textured clients to sleep in a high loose pony tail or bun (this keeps the hair on the sides of your heads flat, not crinkled, while creating some volume) and my thicker, curly haired and bonded extension wearing girls to sleep in a low loose braid to keep from tangling.  And try putting some dry shampoo in before you go to bed! It will absorb those overnight oils! So, in conclusion, yes the silk pillowcase will help reduce friction, thus reducing frizz, but it’s not a miracle worker. And, lets be real, it feels luxurious, so if nothing else it's worth sleeping like a queen!
