Through thick and thin... the story of my brows.

Through thick and thin... the story of my brows.

I still remember stealthily sliding into my parents’ bathroom to take my mothers tweezers.  I was in the seventh grade. I don’t particularly remember people making fun of my eyebrows but I do remember they (my eyebrows) always seemed (and continue) to be a topic of conversation...through thick and thin.

That fateful day I “borrowed” my mothers tweezers, I remember leaning in close to my bathroom mirror, elbows on the counter, plucking away.  There was something so satisfying watching each thick dark hair pop out. A little too satisfying in fact. Before I knew it, I “zoomed out”, well I stood up and took stock of my work at a normal distance from the mirror.  Yikes. Opps. I had essentially tweezed off my eyebrows. There was just a shadow of their former selves left. When my mother saw me, she exclaimed, “why didn’t you ask me for help!?” And to be honest, I’m not quite sure why I didn’t.  And, thus began my lifelong, tumultuous relationship with my eyebrows.

Penciling my eyebrows in when I was in the seventh grade (before this was a prevalent practice, especially among middle schoolers) certainly helped me develop thick skin.  My eyebrows eventually grew back, but the ensuing decade or more of my life was when thin eyebrows were in style. So, thin they were. And later on, I started lightening them to match my highlighted blonde hair!  I’ve included some images of my eyebrows through the years, although the worst of them honestly I think I threw away (while being so thankful it was pre-digital images.) And yes, does my weight, hair color, style and age change over the years.  Most definitely. However, it is undeniable that eyebrows shape our faces. Quite frankly, I feel for celebrities who become famous young and are scrutinized for what work they may have potentially had done. When more likely, they’re just growing into their bone structure and making minor adjustments.  For example, looking back at old photos of myself, I could imagine people could do the same thing (speculate work done.) When in reality, I just lost weight (and stopped eating foods that made my face puffy), grew back my eyebrows, and yes, more recently started getting botox and lip enhancements. But it is wild, even to me, to peak back down memory lane and see the journey me and my brows have been on.

Eyebrows give structure, definition and affect the overall appearance of our faces.  Thicker brows are typically perceived as more youthful, and in my case, help to balance out my larger facial features.  For example, someone who has smaller bone structure and smaller eyes, might overwhelm their face with thick brows. So eyebrows certainly aren’t a one size fits all type of thing.

For all of my young folks out there, if I could give you one piece of advice.  Put down the tweezers.  If you are concerned about stray hairs, or a uni-brow situation, consult a professional.  (And also, please refer to Anthony Davis, the LA Lakers player, because he is an eyebrow hero to me.)  If you are like me and had your way with your eyebrows, and now you’re nervous they might not grow back. Don’t fret!  RevitaBrow is here to save you. It can wake up eyebrow hairs that were once dormant and bring them back to life. The key to using this product is be consistent.  It works.  Trust my brows.  (and no this is not an ad, I just genuinely believe in this product and like sharing what works for me.)  But RevitaBrow, if you’re listening, I would proudly be a spokesperson for you. In love and brows, xxalexandra
